As a graduate of Auburn University’s School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture, Ashley holds dual degrees in both Architecture and Interior Architecture, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2013. Her concurrent study of both disciplines allowed her to explore a passion for a wholistic design approach, integrating landscape, architecture and interiors into a single work of design.
Throughout school Ashley received numerous honors and design awards, recognizing her leadership, teamwork and curiosity of the built environment. She served as president of her local chapter of the American Institute of Architecture Students, received a national design award from the ACSA for the Sustainable Home Competition, and won a traveling scholarship for studies abroad, just to name a few. In 2010, she spent a semester in rural Alabama, master planning for a large scale educational farm and designing a solar greenhouse as a healthy and sustainable model of living for students at the Rural Studio. Subsequently, she spent a semester abroad traveling and studying in Istanbul, Turkey, heightening her awareness and appreciation of place and culture.
Ashley joins the Studio B team after three years immersed in rural West Alabama at the internationally renowned Rural Studio. There she worked with three teammates to design and build a community library, adapting a century-old bank building into a iconic social center. Her time at the Rural Studio was a highly collaborative, hands-on experience, resulting in an accelerated knowledge of building assembly and an appreciation of craft. Even more, it showed her the importance of commitment to community and place and the role that architecture can play as a social practice.
Ashley’s education and experience has driven her passion for design at all scales. From concepts through construction, she is interested in an integrated design approach in which each specialty, from interiors through landscape, can inform the next. Furthermore, she is inspired by place, how communities and environments inform buildings, and how buildings contribute to their context.
Ashley not only enjoys designing, but the art of making as a craft. She is an artist that enjoys drawing, painting, woodworking, gardening and baking. Inspired by the outdoors, she is a runner and looks forward to hiking and trail running in Colorado.
